Mortal Kombat: Armageddon

Mortal Kombat: Armageddon was released a few days ago, October 9TH, 2006, on the Xbox and PS2. What a disappointment! Where do I start first with, the graphics are outdated (Yes I know the PS2 is really old and outdated, but it was no different on the Xbox ether), the sound effects are terrible and both the graphics and sounds are recycled from previous games of this series.

The game feels almost like it's the last game released and not a new one. I rate it a 6.8, I wouldn't buy it even if your a big fan of
the Mortal Kombat series, instead rent it as this game won't offer you much fun.

Scarface: The World Is Yours

Scarface: The World Is Yours was released today, October 8TH, 2006, on the PS2, PC and Xbox. Like the name suggests, the game is based on Scarface the movie, but the game doesn't start where the movie does, but starts where the movie ends. In the movie Tony Montana is killed in the end by a guy that comes from behind him, but the game rewrites that, where you don't die.

You start from the bottom again, you lost everything, the money, drugs and respect. In the game it's your goal to regain all that back and take what's yours. Many of the missions can feel boring and pointless, as if they had nothing to do with the story. And same with much of the storyline.

The nice thing they did was keep loading to a minimum, you can explore an open-ended map that lets you go in and out of buildings without any loading screens popping up. If you hit the talk button Tony starts cursing at people, it's quite enjoyable and funny to do. Overall the game had a few holes, but overall it's a fun game, I rate it a 7.5.

Saints Row

Saints Row was released today, August 29TH, 2006, for the Xbox 360. Very good game, you should really love this game if your a fan of GTAs' games, as this game copies a lot off of it, but it does add it's own spin to it as well, which is what makes this game so great.

It allows you to make your own character's appearance, you can be white, black and everything in betwean. You can choose your eye and change the shape of your eye. You can also choose your hair color and style it the way you like. There are a number of options to choose from to make your character's appearance look the way you want. Graphics are weak though for the Xbox 360 and could use improvment.

Voice and sound on the other hand is done very well. You can play online with up to 12 players. Overall a good game, I rate it a 8.4, a game any GTA fan would love to play.

Madden NFL 07

Madden NFL 07 was realeased today, August 22ND, 2006, on PS2, PSP, PC, Xbox, GameCube, GBA and Xbox 360. Madden NFL 07 didn't live up to the series past games, though it's not worst than provous ones of the series, they didn't add much to the game. I rate it a 8.0, only worth renting if you have last year's Madden game.

Dead Rising

Dead Rising is set to be released tomorrow, August 8TH, 2006, on the Xbox 360. Dead Rising is about a freelance photo journalist on the hunt for a big story. He travels to a small suburban town in pursuit of a hot lead, only to find that it's been overrun with zombies. It is somewhat like Resident Evil. There are plenty of things to explore on this game both indoors and outdoors.
The game uses a Real-time system, which means that certain events happen at certain times and if you're not there you'll miss it. This can be a real pain in the butt because if you miss something important and already saved the game you will have to start all over again. It's not fun having to be somewhere on time in real life and it's no different in a game. I advise you have a number of saves, so you don't have to go back to far if this happens to you.

At times the zombies will be swarming you, but not like other games, where only few would be on screen, there will be tons of them coming at you. Graphics are done very well, but could have been a bit better. Models look . Sounds and voices are outstanding. Overall, I rate this game 8.5, something most will find enjoyable to play.

NCAA Football 2007

NCAA Football 2007 was released today, July 18, 2006, for PS2, PSP, Xbox 360 and Xbox. NCAA Football is back and doesn't improve much from the past games in the series. I rate it 8.8, worth buying if you like football or NCAA sports.

Addiction to Games?

An addiction center is opening Europe's first detox clinic for game addicts, offering in-house treatment for people who can't leave their joysticks alone. Video games may look innocent, but they can be as addictive as gambling or drugs _ and just as hard to kick, says Keith Bakker, director of Amsterdam-based Smith & Jones Addiction Consultants.

Bakker already has treated 20 video game addicts, aged 13 to 30, since January. Some show withdrawal symptoms, such as shaking and sweating, when they look at a computer. His detox program begins in July. It will run four to eight weeks, including discussions with therapists and efforts to build patients' interests in alternative activities.

"We have kids who don't know how to communicate with people face-to- face because they've spent the last three years talking to somebody in Korea through a computer," Bakker said. "Their social network has completely disappeared."

It can start with a Game Boy, perhaps given by parents hoping to keep their children occupied but away from the television. From there it can progress to multilevel games that aren't made to be won. Bakker said he has seen signs of addiction in children as young as 8. Hyke van der Heijden, 28, a graduate of the Amsterdam program, started playing video games 20 years ago. By the time he was in college he was gaming about 14 hours a day and using drugs to play longer.

"For me, one joint would never be enough, or five minutes of gaming would never be enough," he said. "I would just keep going until I crashed out."

Van der Heijden first went to Smith & Jones for drug addiction in October 2005, but realized the gaming was the real problem. Since undergoing treatment, he has distanced himself from his smoking and gaming friends. He says he has been drug- and game-free for eight months.

Like other addicts, Bakker said, gamers are often trying to escape personal problems. When they play, their brains produce endorphins, giving them a high similar to that experienced by gamblers or drug addicts. Gamers' responses to questions even mirror those of alcoholics and gamblers when asked about use.

"Many of these kids believe that when they sit down, they're going to play two games and then do their homework," he said.

However, unlike other addicts, most gamers received their first game from their parents. "Because it's so new, parents don't see that this is something that can be dangerous," Bakker said.

Tim, a gamer who is currently under treatment, agreed to discuss his addiction on condition of his last name not being used. He said he began playing video games three years ago at age 18. Soon he wouldn't leave his room for dinner. Later, he began taking drugs to stay awake and play longer. Finally he sought help and picked up other hobbies to occupy his time.

Symptoms of addiction are easy to spot, Bakker says. Parents should take notice if a child neglects usual activities, spends several hours at a time with the computer and has no social life.
Bakker said parents of game addicts frequently echo the words of partners of cocaine addicts: "'I knew something was wrong, but I didn't know what it was.'"

Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories

Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories was released today, June 6TH, 2006, for PS2. GTA game makers take you back to Liberty City, though this time as Toni Cipriani. Although a break-through for PSP, wasn't so great for PS2. It's almost like a add-on to GTA 3, where new guns and vehicles are added. Graphics are terrible though, as this was ported from the PSP.

You won't recognize any of the music because it was custom made for the game. The music isn't real bad, but is good ether. They could have got a few songs back from the late 90s to use on the game, but since it was made for PSP before being brought to PS2 may explain why they did it this way, most people are not likely to care about the music in a game while playing it on the PSP.

The voices and sound are exactly what you would expect from GTA, they were done very well, but this time they didn't have any famous people doing the voices like with the other GTA games. The storyline at times was boring and pointless. The storyline is also shorter than the other GTA games, but likely was due to the limitations on the PSP. Overall I rate this game a 8.5, If you like the GTA 3, you'll like this one as well. You also can't beat the price.

Hitman: Blood Money

Hitman: Blood Money was released today, May 30, 2006, for PS2, PC, Xbox and Xbox 360. The newest Hitman game does a good job of keeping the old features, while making them better and adding new ones to the game. The AI is a little weak, but not as bad as it has been in previous games of the series and many other games are thousands of times worse than this game's AI.

The storyline is good and unlike the other games in the series is open-ended. After Each mission is completed you get a daily newspapper, which sums up the crime you commited, it really makes the game feel more a alive. The graphics are far better than what they were before, but on the Xbox 360 a little behide other games. Overall I rate this game 8.3, Blood Money is really worth your money.

Microsoft Buys Massive

Microsoft buys Massive, which is a advertising firm that specializes in serving ads in online games, so it looks like Microsoft may start putting more advertisement in it's games. Rumors of Microsoft buying Massive have been circulating for about a week. One interesting thing about this buyout is that Massive already signed deals with Sony Online Entertainment, Microsoft main gaming rival. Ads may soon start appearing on Xbox live.

Nintendo names new video game console

By the AP

REDMOND, Wash. - Gamers no longer have to ask what Nintendo Co. will call its upcoming video game console — the answer is Wii.

Pronounced “we,” the name “emphasizes this console is for everyone,” Nintendo said in a statement posted on its Web site Thursday. “Wii can easily be remembered by people around the world, no matter what language they speak. No confusion. No need to abbreviate. Just Wii.”

No price or launch date has been set for Wii, which will compete with Sony Corp.’s upcoming PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360 from Microsoft Corp. Wii had previously gone by the codename Revolution.

“We just wanted something that would be very easy to remember, that would work in every market, and certainly something that sets us apart from the competition,” Nintendo spokeswoman Beth Llewelyn said. “I’m sure when people heard Google for the first time, they were like, 'What does that mean?”’

One of Wii’s signature features are the wireless joysticks, which look like a TV remote and can be waved around to control action on the screen. Nintendo said the two i’s were meant to symbolize both the shape of controllers and the image of people gathering to play. Further details were likely to emerge at next month’s Electronic Entertainment Expo, an annual industry conference in Los Angeles.

The Godfather

The Godfather was released today, March, 21ST, 2006, on the PS2, PC, PSP and XBOX. The Godfather gets it's name from the movie and is based on it. The Godfather puts you in the role of a character that didn't appear in the film, but however played a important role in the story. Your father was a loyal business man to the Godfather and gets gunned down by a rival mob. The Godfather takes you under his wings as your mother has asked the Don to.

Sound and graphics are not the greatest, but they don't hurt the game ether. While the music isn't anything like what we've seen on GTA games, it still sets well with the game, the music is what you expect from a mob game or movie. The storyline is long and can be challenging enough to keep it going. The map big and does a good job of looking like New York in the 1940s.

Overall I rate this game a 8.6, anyone the likes GTA type games should have this apart of their game collection.

Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence

Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence was released yesterday, March, 14, 2006, for PS2. As if the game couldn't get much better, they made a ton of improvements to graphics, features and sounds. For the the first time ever you can experience Metal Gear online and play with up to 7 friends at once. It adds a third-person camera perspective, which in my opinion makes the game many times better than before.

You can go back to the old camera view if you though, but the new camera view will be the default camera angle used in the game. Graphics are outstanding, great detail to characters and the environment. Overall I world rate this game a 9.2, one of those games everyone should have, unless of course your too young to play it.

MLB '06: The Show

MLB '06: The Show was released today, Feburary, 28, 2006, for PS2 and PSP. MLB '06 features many of the same playing modes from the previous games, Franchise mode, Season mode, Exhibition mode, Rivalry mode, Career mode and new mini game, King of the Diamond, where pitcher and batter square off in classic playground duels. Rivalry mode lets you set up and maintain heated rivalries between multiple gamers.

Overall I rate this game a 8.8, if you like sport games you should get this game.

Fight Night Round 3

Fight Night Round 3 was released today for PS2, PSP, Xbox and Xbox 360 and it delivers what you would expect from the game series. It features many of the same playing modes from the previous games, such as career, play now, online multi-player modes and now offers the all-new ESPN Classic mode, which allows you to fight in some of the biggest matches in boxing history.

Graphics are soild with amazing models, many unique animations and many other things. The voice acting and sound is great as well. When you hear boxers on the game get hit it almost sounds like your there in the ring. Overall I rate this 8.5, if you like boxing you got to have this game.

State of Emergency 2

State of Emergency 2 was a step back from the first State of Emergency, as the storyline is lame and the graphics are outdated. The voice acting was even worse than the first one as well. Overall I rate this game a even 5.0, not even worth renting or buying unless you can get it for under 5 bucks..

MVP 06 NCAA Baseball

MVP 06 NCAA Baseball was released today. If you like baseball, you should like this game. The game play is great with features such as dynasty mode, quick game, scenario mode, batting and pitching mini games. The game modes are identical to those included in last year's MVP Baseball 2005.

The graphics are great, tons of unique play animations that looks beautiful. The voice acting wasn't great and gets repetitive fast during game play. Other bad thing about the game is all players are fictional and not real collage players. Overall I give it a 7.9 rating, worth playing.
